Job Description

Salary:  $3750.00 per month / $45,000 per year

 

Benefits:  This is a full-time state position that provides a percentage of matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave per year.  The state also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.

 

Basic Purpose:  This position is responsible for conducting individual and group counseling sessions for the program youth and prepares students to transition to placement immediately following completion of the program. Also provides classroom instruction of job skills and life coping skills curriculum.

 

Essential Functions:

·         Under supervision of the Lead counselor, conduct individual, group and crisis counseling to positively affect retention of cadets and to identify their life/career goals.  Provides daily feedback on cadets progress to supervisor.

·         Provide individual counseling and group guidance in the areas of life coping skills, drug and alcohol education, character education, as well as individual/personal issues.

·         Assist with retention of cadets as needed

·         Coordinate and schedule guest speakers and field trips appropriate to counseling group subject matter

  • Attend educational, institutional and department meetings and trainings as required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Ability to handle confidential information; exercise sound judgment in interpreting and applying rules or policy.  Internet and computer skills for program database entry.

 

Education and Experience:  BA/BS in counseling, education or related field required. Masters and Licensure (LPC/LBP) preferred

 

Licenses/Certificates required:   LPC/LBP preferred

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • T1/CNACI security clearance (Eligibility for national security positions shall be granted only to persons who are U.S. Citizens)
  • Serves a 12-month trial period
  • Contingent on receiving continuous federal funding
