JOB DESCRIPTION  

Position Overview 

The Counseling Manager is responsible for one on one and group-based support ensuring clients have access to high-quality, trauma-informed and client-centered interventions that promote housing stability, wellness and self-sufficiency. Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, this role leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of psychoeducational workshops and counseling services. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and strategic leader with strong clinical judgment, exceptional facilitation skills and a commitment to delivering equitable, evidence-informed services. This role plays a critical part in strengthening the organizations health and wellbeing programming by fostering resilience, building coping skills and supporting long term housing stability through workshops and service focused on financial empowerment, tenant rights and responsibilities, LGBTQIA+ support, resilience, employment readiness and other areas that advance client wellbeing.

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement evidence-informed group curricula and counseling interventions that address the emotional, behavioral and practical challenges associated with housing instability; 
  • Ensure excellence in service delivery by monitoring group services quality, participant engagement, service outcomes, documentation, and adherence to organizational policies and best practices; 
  • Conduct clinical consultations and support staff in addressing complex client needs, crisis situations and appropriate service planning during case conferencing; 
  • Provide support to staff in identifying appropriate referrals that promote housing stability, mental wellness and long-term self-sufficiency; 
  • Provide brief, solution-focused counseling and crisis intervention services, utilizing trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approaches to stabilize immediate needs, enhance coping skills, and connect clients to appropriate ongoing supports and community resources; 
  • Stay informed on behavioral health best practices, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention strategies, community mental health resources, and supportive services available to New Yorkers, including public behavioral health systems, community-based counseling providers, healthcare partners, substance use treatment programs, and The Partnership's counseling, group services, and referral protocols; 
  • Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches to ensure counseling and group services are accessible, inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of participants; 
  • Collaborate with internal program teams to ensure seamless coordination of services, warm handoffs and continuity of care across the organization's housing stability programs; 
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with behavioral health providers, community organizations, and other service agencies to expand resources and improve client outcomes; 
  • Monitor program data and outcomes to identify trends, measure effectiveness, and recommend program enhancements and operational improvements to the Director of Program Operations; 
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Program Operations to strengthen service models, improve operational efficiency, and advance organizational goals and strategic priorities; 
  • Participate in the ongoing development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the organization's counseling and supportive service programs; 
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in client records and the organization's data management systems in accordance with agency and regulatory requirements; 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Skills and qualifications  

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field required;  
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience providing behavioral health, counseling, or supportive services, including at least 2 years facilitating groups; 
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating group counseling, psychoeducational and trauma-informed programming for individuals and families experiencing housing instability or other complex life challenges; 
  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, behavioral health best practices and the impact of housing instability, poverty and systemic inequities on mental health and family well-being;
  • Experience providing clinical consultation and supporting staff in managing complex client situations and behavioral health crises; 
  • Strong facilitation, communication, conflict resolution, mediation and de-escalation skills; 
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships with behavioral health providers, community organizations, healthcare systems and other external stakeholders; 
  • Experience using program data, client outcomes, and quality improvement practices to evaluate services and inform programmatic decision-making; 
  • Strong operation and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality service delivery; 
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, equitable and client-centered services that honor the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of participants; 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health records or case management/data management systems; 
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment with a low to  moderate noise level; routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, cameras,  photocopiers/scanners and filing cabinets; is required to travel to external meetings, and be able to work  evenings and weekends, as needed; and, frequently focus for long periods of time. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required  to stand, walk and sit; maintain a stationary position for long periods of time; use hands and fingers to  operate objects, tools or controls such as phones, computers and office equipment and accessories; reach  with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear and exchange accurate  information via in-person, electronic, telephonic, virtual and written communications. The employee must be  able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,  distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 Benefits  

Compensation for this full-time, exempt role includes: $84K salary; generous PTO and benefits, including employer coverage of 100% of employee health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision); disability; life insurance; transit; and 401K with employer contribution. A seasonal 4-day work week, based in NYC office
