STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for engaging our workforce development clients and connecting individuals and families to workforce trainings, public benefits education, and other referrals as needed. This role supports WIPA by conducting targeted outreach, facilitating program enrollment, and strengthening partnerships with faith-based institutions and community organizations. The position emphasizes culturally responsive engagement, advocacy, and service coordination for underserved populations.

The agency has embraced the concept of a fully integrated system of care for all consumers of service. This requires that the staff assess the client's needs holistically and see it as their responsibility to connect the client with services needed--internal or external

  • Conduct outreach within parishes, faith-based institutions, and community settings to promote immigrant services and workforce programs.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with clergy, parish staff, community leaders, and partner organizations.
  • Representing the organization at parish events, community meetings, and outreach activities.
  • Engage individuals and families to assess needs and provide information on available services and supports.
  • Provide referrals to internal programs and external community resources, including legal, social, health, and emergency services.
  • Conduct outreach to eligible individuals for enrollment in workforce development and WIPA services.
  • Educate participants on employment opportunities, work incentives, and referrals to other community based workforce development programs
  • Support clients with job readiness activities, including orientation to training programs and employment pathways.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of outreach activities, client interactions, and referrals in accordance with program and funder requirements.
  • Assist in preparing reports, data summaries, and outreach metrics for grants and internal evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field
  • 2 years of experience working with immigrant services, workforce development, or community outreach is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Work Force Development program, public benefits, and employment-related supports are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of challenges faced by immigrant and underserved communities.
  • Ability to work effectively within faith-based environments while respecting diverse beliefs.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, & climbing stairs.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings/weekends) as assigned.
  • Able to travel throughout the five boroughs as needed.
