Position Description 


Department: ACU Foundation

Reports to: Prisca Walters, Assistant Vice President


Position Purpose 


The Associated Credit Union Foundation was established in 2008 and serves as the philanthropic arm of the credit union. The Community Outreach Coordinator maintains and deepens ACU’s impact in the community by building and expanding local partnerships and managing communication between the Foundation and employees, members, donors, partners, and all other stakeholders. Responsibilities include public engagement, project management, CRM maintenance, and grant writing. 

The Community Outreach Coordinator focuses heavily on the ACU Foundation’s mission advocacy, volunteer mobilization, and resource-limited program execution. Their primary goal is to create engagement and execute strategies to support ongoing fundraising campaigns, projects, programs, and new initiatives which benefit employees, members, and the community.


Essential Functions & Core Duties 


  • Project Management: Strategize and independently execute campaigns, programs, and fundraisers. 
  • Relationship Building: Maintain and expand connections within the community and across the credit union’s partners and affiliates.
  • Communications: Relay fundraising needs and success stories through regular interaction by phone, in-person, video conference, email, and written correspondence with all levels of staff, volunteers, third-party partners and vendors, and Foundation Partners. Must have strong writing background.
  • Program Evaluation: Track campaign status and event metrics, gather feedback from donors and program participants, and report on outreach impact. 
  • Grant writing: Monthly submission of grants and maintenance of grant cycles.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, social work, nonprofit or not-for-profit management, business, or related field preferred. Equivalent certifications or experience will be considered.

 

Key Non-Profit Responsibilities

  • Organization: Strong project management and multitasking skills for handling concurring events.
  • Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for community events.
  • Advocacy & Awareness: Educate employees and members about ACU’s philanthropic mission through in-person and remote presentations.
  • Grant & Donor Support: Gather community impact data and success stories to assist with grant applications, donor recognitions, and communication. 
  • Grassroots Networking: Build deep coalitions with other credit unions and affiliates.
  • Resource Distribution: Coordinate the logistics of getting supplies, services, or food directly to Foundation Partners at the conclusion of campaigns.
  • CRM Maintenance: Perform frequent updates and procure donor reports. 

Specific Non-Profit Qualifications

  • Experience: Prior work or volunteer history, particularly working with diverse populations and students.
  • Resourcefulness: Ability to maximize small budgets and secure in-kind donations from individuals and local businesses.
  • Empathy: High emotional intelligence to navigate sensitive community issues and community hardships.

  • Strong service orientation, professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Strong attention to quality, detail, and accuracy.
  • Work with a sense of organization and urgency; can manage multiple responsibilities and priorities simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment; and excels in a deadline and goal-driven organization.
  • Demonstrate computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn internal systems and required software programs; experience with data entry and donor management systems preferred.

Physical requirements

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly required to sit and work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee will be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift, carry, pull, grasp, and bend over. The employee must be able to lift, carry and move up to 30 pounds as needed.
