THE ORGANIZATION 

Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement (Riis Settlement), a community-based non-profit organization offering comprehensive services to the youth, adults, seniors, immigrants and families of Western Queens, is dedicated to civic engagement and organizing as integral to our mission “to build and strengthen underserved communities and act as a catalyst for change.” 

 

Job Summary: 

The Part-Time Community Engagement Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of community engagement activities that strengthen relationships between the organization and the Western Queens community. This role is responsible for executing outreach efforts, supporting programs and events, providing education and resources, and maintaining strong connections with community members and partners. 

Working in a part-time capacity, the coordinator focuses on day-to-day engagement efforts, ensuring a consistent community presence and high-quality program delivery. 

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities: 



Conduct outreach to community members, partners, and stakeholders to promote programs and services  





Represent the organization at community meetings, events, and outreach activities  





Build and maintain positive relationships with community members and local organizations  





Support the planning and execution of community events, workshops, and initiatives  





Assist with logistics, including scheduling, setup, coordination, and follow-up  





Ensure programs are welcoming, inclusive, and responsive to community needs  





Maintain ongoing communication with existing community partners  





Identify and help coordinate new partnership opportunities  





Support volunteer recruitment, coordination, and engagement for events and programs  





Help ensure volunteers have a positive and organized experience  





Respond to community inquiries and provide information about programs and services  





Support outreach efforts through flyers, emails, and social media  





Maintain organized records of contacts, partnerships, and engagement activities  


Qualifications 

 STATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 



Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 





2–4 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or program coordination 





Experience working with diverse communities and populations 





Strong interpersonal and communication skills 





Ability to build relationships and effectively engage diverse groups 





Strong organizational and multitasking skills 





Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities 





Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 





Basic data tracking and reporting skills 





Experience in a nonprofit or community-based organization preferred 





Familiarity with the local community, including its needs and assets 





Multilingual abilities strongly preferred 



Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, though it may vary depending on scheduled events.

This is a temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 2026
