The Communications Specialist leads all communications efforts, serving as a staff writer tasked with crafting messages for internal and external audiences and managing communications projects for the Tulane School of Social Work. This position develops, writes, and implements content that includes long-form feature writing, as well as web, advertising, and social media copy, and a wide variety of other project work across multiple channels for the School. The Communications Specialist creates and edits storytelling content for PR, marketing, and social media initiatives.

Responsibilities

•    Outstanding written communication and editorial skills using AP Style.
•    Must be organized, self-sufficient, and able to work with autonomy as well as a member of a team.
•    Ability to produce in-house videos (filming, script writing, and editing).
•    Proficiency in content management systems including Drupal.
•    Proficiency in multimedia/creative tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, etc.) and/or Final Cut Pro.
•    Proficiency and track record in social media platform creation, content management, and posting.
•    Proficient computer skills with knowledge of applications applicable to the responsibilities of the position.
•    Strong public speaking, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills.
•    Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and other stakeholders, navigate competing priorities, and translate complex ideas into compelling communications.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

•    Bachelor’s Degree
•    3 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or other closely related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:  

•    Master’s Degree
•    3 years of experience in communications in higher education
•    3 years of social media and communications experience
