Job Purpose

 

The Clinician provides culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and evidence-based counseling and therapeutic services for youth and their families. The role includes conducting assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, and delivering youth, family, and group interventions that support healing, stability, and positive long-term outcomes.

 

Working collaboratively with teammates and community partners, the Clinician provides clinical services aligned with Liliʻuokalani Trust’s mission to serve vulnerable youth and families, with a preference for Native Hawaiians. The Clinician maintains accurate documentation, evaluates progress, and receives clinical consultation to support complex cases and ensure high-quality care.

 

This role is open to both licensed and non-licensed clinicians. Responsibilities are equivalent, with licensed clinicians eligible for higher compensation to reflect additional clinical qualifications and scope of practice.

Essential Responsibilities

 

Youth Engagement & Program Support

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of a safe, supportive environment that fosters belonging and positive identity development for all participants.
  • Builds and maintains respectful, positive relationships with youth and families engaged in programs and services.
  • Responds to behavioral escalations calmly and respectfully, following established protocols and seeking support from teammates as appropriate.
  • Assists in implementing youth development programming, including group activities and other program offerings.
  • Provides encouragement, coaching, and guidance to youth that reinforces strengths, accountability, and healthy decision-making

Direct Clinical Services

  • Provides clinical counseling and therapeutic support for individuals, families, and groups addressing complex concerns, including mental health, trauma, family strain, and psychosocial stressors.
  • Delivers therapeutic services to youth participating across micro, mezzo, and macro levels of intervention, including group work and youth engagement activities as appropriate.
  • Develops and implement treatment plans with youth and their families, adjusting interventions based on progress, outcomes, and evolving needs.
  • Supports youth in identifying achievable short- and long-term goals that promote stability, healing, sustainability, and self-sufficiency.
  • Maintains accurate, timely documentation of clinical services and activities.

Assessment and Treatment Planning

  • Conducts comprehensive kamaliʻi and ‘ohana assessments and provide strengths-based guidance and interventions that foster healthy relationships and overall safety and wellbeing.
  • Works with families to strengthen protective factors and address identified concerns impacting well-being, as needed.
  • Integrates strengths-based and culturally grounded approaches in treatment planning and service delivery.
  • Engages families with community resources in support of treatment goals and continuity of care.
  • Prepares for and participates in case conferences and court hearings, providing written and verbal reports as required and ensuring accuracy and consistency in documentation.

Consultation and Team Collaboration

  • Consults with program teammates to support youth engagement, behavior regulation, and participation in programming and services.
  • Shares trauma-informed strategies, de-escalation approaches, and insight into youth behavior and emotional responses with LT teammates.
  • Engages in clinical consultation and receive guidance from the Clinical Consultant, particularly for complex cases, risk concerns, and specialized interventions.

Community Engagement and Outreach

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with youth, families, staff, community partners, and system stakeholders.
  • Provides outreach and information to individuals, groups, and communities regarding Liliʻuokalani Trust programs and services.

 

 

Other duties

  • Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new
  • skills, and striving to improves team and organization results.
  • Contributes to providing a safe environment for teammates and beneficiaries which includes, communicating to Manager any concerns regarding facilities and vehicles.
  • Maintains active clinical licensure and required credentials.
  • Participates in program planning, budget development, revision, and evaluation.
  • Participates in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development.
  • Holiday, evening and weekend hours required as needed
  • Ability to travel as needed for Trust business

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or a closely related social services or behavioral health field.
  • At least 3-5 years post-Master's experience providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive assessment and therapeutic services for children, youth, and families experiencing mental health challenges or complex psychosocial stressors.
  • Minimum one year community or macro level experience.
  • Experience in casework and/or permanency planning, including safety assessment, report writing, and family systems work, or other related community work.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to tailor communications to different audiences and actively listen.
  • Personal alignment with a non-hierarchical, no ego, meritocratic culture, demonstrating a strong moral compass and intellectual honesty.
  • Action-oriented with sound clinical and quantitative judgment, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and a growth mindset; able to thrive in a high-performance, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and support teammates, navigate disagreements constructively, resolve issues professionally, and adapt effectively to changing priorities and evolving situations.
  • Valid driver license, clean traffic abstract, and access to a privately owned automobile with valid no-fault insurance.
  • Current TB clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Clinicians: Current Hawai’i State Professional Clinical License (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent)
  • Experience providing complex clinical interventions, managing higher-acuity cases, and participating in court proceedings.
  • First Aid and CPR/AED Certification.

Physical Requirements

Performs light physical work, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposed to outdoor climate and diverse terrain.
