Position Summary


Northern Ohio Recovery Association (NORA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting long-term recovery and wellness through peer-based support and evidence-based services, is seeking a motivated and professional Clinical Intern.


The Clinical Intern will gain hands-on experience across multiple service areas, including outpatient counseling, residential treatment support, and intake/assessment processes. Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, the intern will develop clinical skills, documentation competency, and an understanding of integrated behavioral health services. This role is expected to model professionalism, ethical conduct, recovery principles, and prosocial behavior.


Key Responsibilities

Outpatient Clinical Services

Observe and participate in individual and group counseling sessions under supervision

Assist in implementing treatment plans and clinical interventions

Support documentation of services in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards

Learn and apply evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, MI, trauma-informed care)

Residential Program Support

Support clinical and recovery-oriented programming within residential settings

Assist with group facilitation, skill-building activities, and client engagement

Observe client behavior and support a safe, structured environment

Collaborate with Behavioral Health Technicians and clinical staff

Intake & Assessment Support

Assist with intake processes, including client interviews and data collection

Observe and support biopsychosocial assessments and screening tools

Help ensure accurate and timely documentation of intake information

Support coordination of admissions and referrals as needed

Documentation & Compliance

Complete clinical documentation under supervision, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

Learn standards related to Medicaid, Ohio DBH, and accreditation requirements

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies

Professional Development

Participate in individual and group supervision sessions

Engage in training opportunities and clinical learning activities

Demonstrate growth in clinical judgment, communication, and ethical practice

Seek and incorporate feedback to improve performance

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field

Eligible for internship or practicum placement through an accredited program

Interest in substance use disorder treatment and recovery services

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Willingness to learn and accept supervision

Preferred Skills

Exposure to behavioral health, human services, or recovery environments

Basic understanding of counseling theories or evidence-based practices

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations

Comfort working in both clinical and residential settings

Ability to model recovery-oriented principles and maintain a professional presence

Travel

Minimal; may include travel between program sites within the Cleveland area

Compensation

Unpaid internship or stipend-based (based on program requirements and funding availability)
