Grow Your Clinical Skills While Supporting Youth & Families

The Children’s Center of Hamden is seeking compassionate and motivated Clinical Interns (MFT, LMSW, and LPC track) to join our Clinical Services Department. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience providing supervised clinical support to children, adolescents, and families in a mission-driven setting. You’ll participate in assessment, treatment planning, individual and family sessions, and documentation while learning best practices in trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. This internship is an excellent opportunity for graduate-level students working toward licensure who are looking to deepen their clinical skillset, strengthen professional identity, and make a meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

As Clinical Intern, you will:

  • Provide supervised clinical services (individual, family, and/or group) aligned with program needs
  • Support intake/assessment processes and contribute to treatment planning
  • Participate in clinical team meetings, case conferences, and consultation
  • Complete timely documentation in accordance with agency standards and confidentiality requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support client progress and continuity of care
  • Engage in supervision and professional development activities to build competency and meet program requirements


What We’re Looking For

  • Current graduate student in a COAMFTE-accredited MFT program or CACREP-aligned counseling program (LPC track), or CSWE-accredited counseling program (LMSW track),
  • Strong interest in working with children/adolescents and families
  • Commitment to ethical practice, reliability, and professionalism
  • Ability to learn and apply clinical feedback in supervision
  • Basic comfort with documentation and use of electronic records (training provided as needed)

 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the program/site as needed for sessions, meetings, and client support.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced clinical setting with frequent interpersonal interaction and occasional high-stimulation environments (noise, interruptions, or emotional intensity).
  • Ability to maintain attention and composure when exposed to sensitive clinical content, including crises or challenging client behaviors (with supervision and support).
  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids and other environmental hazards in residential, school-based, or milieu settings.
