The counseling Intern will gain supervised experience in providing mental health services to a diverse college student population.  Intern will engage in individual and group counseling, outreach, case consultation and administrative responsibilities consistent with training goals.  This position is designed to support the intern’s clinical development.


Qualifications:

  • A currently enrolled student in a Master’s program in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field
  • Completion of department pre-internship requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual counseling/psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students presenting with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, identity development, academic stress, interpersonal challenge, trauma and adjustment concerns (average caseload of 10-12 students per week)
  • Participate in intake assessments, suicide assessments and crisis interventions under supervision
  • Co facilitate or observe therapy groups, workshops or psychoeducation support groups as appropriate to training level.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of outreach materials and presentations, mental health awareness events and additional activities in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Conduce case conceptualization, treatment planning, documentation and clinical charting in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Attend and actively participate in individual and group supervision as required by academic program and site
  • Uphold and model ethical practice, cultural humility and trauma-informed care in all aspects of clinical work
  • Engage in consultation with staff, faculty and student services when appropriate
