Crossroads Community Services Board is seeking a qualified and motivated CIT Coordinator to support the development, coordination, and ongoing operation of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program.

The CIT Coordinator will develop and maintain professional relationships with community stakeholders, including law enforcement officers, emergency department nurses and physicians, magistrates, first responders, Crossroads staff, and other community partners.

This position is responsible for maintaining a CIT Trainer Cadre, coordinating CIT training opportunities, and ensuring appropriate staffing coverage for the Crisis Intervention Team Assessment Center (CITAC) through off-duty local law enforcement officers. The CIT Coordinator will also communicate regularly with participating law enforcement agencies to maintain effective CITAC coverage.

Additional responsibilities include collecting, maintaining, and submitting required program, financial, and grant-related data to the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and other requesting organizations in a timely manner.

The CIT Coordinator will plan and implement week-long CIT trainings for law enforcement officers and other community first responders. Training topics include mental health crisis response, community resources, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Human Services or a related field preferred.
  • A graduate-level degree in a human services field that provides eligibility for clinical licensure in Virginia, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, organize, and implement CIT trainings.
  • Develop and maintain a CIT Trainer Cadre.
  • Coordinate scheduling of law enforcement officers for CITAC coverage.
  • Maintain communication and professional relationships with participating law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain required CITAC program data, financial records, and budget information in accordance with state and grant guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to DBHDS and other appropriate organizations in a timely manner.
  • Review and update the CITAC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) every two years.
  • Provide education and training regarding mental health crises, community resources, crisis intervention, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities and expectations of the position.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Successful candidates should possess knowledge of:

  • The history of Crisis Intervention Team programs and the requirements necessary for effective CIT program development and maintenance.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation best practices.
  • Law enforcement and first-responder culture.
  • HIPAA requirements and applicable privacy and security regulations regarding confidential medical and protected health information.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with law enforcement, medical professionals, Crossroads staff, community partners, and the public.
  • Ability to develop, organize, and deliver training to law enforcement officers and other first responders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and general computer applications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Additional Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background screenings, which may include fingerprinting, Sex Offender Registry and Crimes Against Minors Registry searches, and any other screenings required by Crossroads Community Services Board or applicable regulations. Medical examinations or testing may also be required when applicable.
