The Chair of PPEP is the administrative officer of one of UMSON’s five academic departments, reports directly to the Dean, and leads departmental faculty members in UMSON’s tripartite mission of education, research and scholarship, and service. PPEP consists of 16 full-time faculty and 24 administrative staff members. The Department is diverse and consists of the Clinical Simulation Labs on the Baltimore Campus, the Governor’s Wellmobile Program, the Institute for Educators, the Office of Global Health, the Office of Professional Education, and the Standardized Patient Program, which is offered in collaboration with the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Founded in 1889, UMSON is one of the oldest and largest schools of nursing in the United States. It enrolls nearly 2,100 students in its baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs; our U.S. News & World Report rankings include the baccalaureate program at #10, the master’s program at #6, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at #6 among public Schools of Nursing.
UMSON is part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s 72-acre graduate professional campus that includes the schools of medicine, dentistry, social work, pharmacy, and law – and an interdisciplinary Graduate School. Primary Responsibilities:
Promote achievement of academic, research and scholarship, service, and practice strategic initiatives.
Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with faculty members, administrators, external institutions, and community partners.
Facilitates communication between and among faculty members, administrators, and other staff at the departmental, school and university level.
Recommends hiring, advancement, and retention of faculty members and staff.
Provides fiscal oversight of department’s operational and discretionary funds.
Dynamic, visionary, and innovative leader
Earned doctorate in nursing
Scholarship in teaching, research, and/or practice
Experience in health policy or advocacy preferred
Skills in community engagement
Commitment to shared governance
Interdisciplinary collaborative experience
Fiscal management experience
