Overview

The CANS Supervisor provides supervision, operational oversight, and quality assurance for the CANS program, ensuring assessments are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with Texas Child-Centered Care requirements. The role supervises CANS staff, monitors performance and service quality, supports staff development, and works closely with the leadership of Family & Assessment Services. The CANS Supervisor also collaborates with DFPS, SSCCs, placement providers, and other stakeholders to support compliance, effective service delivery, and continuous program improvement.

Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Oversee daily CANS operations from referral through assessment completion, ensuring timely assignments, documentation, system entry, and follow-up.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and development to the Senior CANS Assessor and CANS Assessors.
  • Monitor caseloads, productivity, assessment timelines, and program performance to support timely and equitable service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Child-Centered Care requirements, contracts, agency policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of assessments and documentation for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Identify workflow, quality, or compliance concerns and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, audits, monitoring reviews, and continuous program improvement.
  • Maintain expertise in CANS requirements and provide guidance on scoring, interpretation, complex assessments, and disputed findings.
  • Promote person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed assessment practices.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, compliance trends, and assessment completion data and provide reports and recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate with the leadership of Family & Assessment Services, DFPS, SSCCs, caregivers, placement providers, and other stakeholders to support effective assessment services.
  • Strong knowledge of CANS, child welfare, behavioral health, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, manage competing priorities, and meet required deadlines.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, Microsoft Office, and reporting platforms.
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, company policy, and regulatory agency standards.
  • May be required to drive vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete company vehicle training.
  • Occasional travel may be required

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services or related field required, master’s degree preferred. The ideal candidate will have five years experience in child welfare, behavioral health, assessment services experience with a minimum of two years relevant experience in leadership, supervisory or program coordination. Current CANS 3.0 certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
