Seasonal Assistant Director Role: January-August ($45,000 Salary)
The primary function of this role is to develop systems and training that address the morale and healthy engagement of all campers and staff as the leader of the Community Care Team. In addition, this position implements programs and systems that address the Mental, Emotional, and Social Health (MESH) of campers and staff during the summer season. This role also maintains residency at Camp Sabra during the summer months.
Create and implement a comprehensive MESH curriculum for staff orientation and training.
Create and implement programs during the summer to support the MESH needs of the community.
Implement a standardized methodology and assessment tools (such as the Nabita rubric) to consistently assess risk levels and to standardize decision-making regarding campers and situations and reduce bias on the CCT and to guide appropriate intervention steps.
In collaboration with the Sabra full-time staff team, assist recruitment of new Sabra campers, which will include occasional travel and other engagement techniques to optimize our camper census.
In conjunction with Senior Director, plan and execute recruitment/MESH presentations to campers and families, as well as to other stakeholders-including board and committee members.
Create a comprehensive presentation for parents to view prior to camp arrival via Zoom call or in person detailing Camp Sabra’s commitment to each camper’s mental, emotional, and social wellbeing as well as supports available.
Make contact with camper families prior to camp to review mental health paperwork
Meet daily with the CCT during camp to review each camper and speak to their current situation at camp and to collectively measure against assessment tools.
Collaborates with camp health center regarding specific camper medical needs.
Manage the day-to-day responsibilities during camp of CCT through a collaborative model that inspires skill enhancement, coaching/counseling, staff development and high performing teams.
Execute a best-in-class system of community care focused on identifying potential challenges across the camper and staff population with a focus on coaching staff in resolving issues and developing skills.
Work in partnership with the Sabra’s Director and Assistant Directors to develop a robust internal culture that encourages creativity and motivates campers and staff to explore new opportunities and programs.
Work with health center manager and foodservice leadership regarding the needs of individual campers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
BA/BS in a related field is required. Master’s in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or Education degree preferred.
A minimum of 3-5 years working in the camping industry preferred.
Ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline.
Must be able to travel occasionally throughout the year and reside at camp during the summer season.
Ability to follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision.
Ability to work with all levels of an organization, with particular ability to meet potential campers and their families and make presentations to them.
Must have demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Must have a demonstrated ability to learn new software programs, as industry specific programs are utilized in this position (CampMinder).
Attention to detail.
Demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA compliance.
Independently apply and carry out policies and procedures within assigned area of responsibility.
Commitment to agency mission.
First Aid/CPR/AED certification is preferred. Training is provided.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check according to Camp Sabra policies.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk long distances over gravel and rough terrain, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, use hands to handle controls; be able to talk and hear. This employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to participate in games with staff and campers requiring running, stooping or and bending. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. During camp season the majority of the work is outdoors in summer heat and humidity; the majority of the work is inside during off season.
