Behavioral Health Services Supervisor

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Supervisor applies advanced clinical skills and specialized knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, including severe mental illness. This role oversees the delivery of counseling services, supervises program operations, and supports the integration of behavioral health services with Wesley Nurses and community clinics to promote improved client health and mental health outcomes.

Scope and Impact

This position provides direct counseling services, supervises field team counselors, and ensures the quality and effectiveness of behavioral health programs. The Behavioral Health Supervisor contributes to strategic planning, program development, and data analysis to enhance service delivery across assigned regions or community sites.

Decision-Making Authority

Functions independently within professional and organizational guidelines. Exercises clinical judgment in treatment planning and program supervision. Makes decisions on client eligibility, service delivery methods, and referrals to external agencies. Recommends modifications to policies and procedures as needed.

Interactions / Working Relationships

Collaborates closely with Wesley Nurses, community clinics, and interdisciplinary teams. Provides supervision and guidance to counseling staff and maintains relationships with community partners. Communicates regularly with the Regional & Clinical Counseling Manager to report program data and outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Apply advanced clinical knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, including severe mental illness.
• Deliver individual, marital, family, and group therapy using evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing and integrated behavioral health models.
• Utilize DSM, ICD, and other diagnostic systems for accurate assessment and diagnosis.
• Provide clinical supervision, program coordination, and oversight of counseling staff to ensure quality and consistency in service delivery.
• Support team members in implementing motivational interviewing and integrated care practices.
• Partner with Wesley Nurses and community clinics to integrate care and improve patient outcomes.
• Determine client eligibility, establish sliding fee scales, and communicate payment structures during intake.
• Refer ineligible clients to appropriate community service providers and follow up to ensure service linkage.
• Identify and maintain community resources within designated service areas.
• Analyze and report program data to the Regional & Clinical Counseling Manager, using data to enhance planning and resource allocation.
• Coordinate quality assurance indicators and evaluate program effectiveness.
• Oversee administrative aspects of the counseling program including supply management, record security, fee collection, staff scheduling, and timesheet submission.
• Support policy and procedure implementation and recommend improvements.
• Develop treatment plans addressing both short- and long-term goals, and maintain cumulative records for all clients.
• Foster collaborative communication with internal teams, Wesley Nurse programs, and community partners.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory or Leadership Responsibilities

Directly supervises counselors and/or Behavioral Health Consultants. Responsible for performance oversight, program coordination, and administrative management of counseling services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required) 

• Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field.
• Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist. Must be eligible for licensure in Texas.
• Experience: Minimum three years of clinical experience providing counseling services. At least one year of supervisory or Behavioral Health Consultant experience preferred.
• Other Required Skills/Knowledge: 
• Strong skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and program supervision.
• Knowledge of motivational interviewing and integrated behavioral health models.
• Ability to analyze data and develop program reports.
• Competence in maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.

 Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a Behavioral Health Consultant in a primary care or integrated setting.
• Experience overseeing counselors or behavioral health service teams.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Experience working with underserved or diverse populations.

Technology and Tools

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and electronic health record (EHR) software. Ability to document efficiently and accurately within EHR systems.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work occurs in outpatient clinic, community center, and/or church environments with direct client interaction.

• Frequent sitting, standing, bending, and walking required.
• Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 25 pounds.
• Requires frequent in-town and occasional regional travel.
• May include evening or weekend work as needed.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
