As a member of the leadership team, the BHS Emergency Services Clinical Manager, a licensed LMSW, LLP, or LPC works in coordination with the Emergency Services leadership team, Behavioral Health Services leadership team and Director of Behavioral Health Services. Oversees the day to day operations of the MSW team working within the emergency department and medical floors, and the clinical and support staff assigned to the Mental Health Evaluation Rooms (MHER) area of the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include scheduling staff, annual reviews, hiring and orienting team members, leading staff meetings, monitoring department competencies and functioning as an additional team member during high volume or critical moments. The Manager will also provide clinical leadership and direction to support and promote exceptional evidence-based patient care and documentation as well as the physical and psychological safety of both patients and staff. Assists in problem solving and communication between various BHS areas as well as the broader organization and outside collaborative partners to optimize patient flow.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, psychology or related field
Current license in field of study (MSW, etc.)
Two years of management or leadership experience
Knowledge of best practices for mental health evaluations and comfort in responding to mental health emergencies
Current BLS for the healthcare provider or completed within first quarter of hire

Preferred Experience and Education:
Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field
Clinical experience in an emergency department or crisis setting

Administrative-Team Leadership

  • Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to staff through coaching and mentoring.
  • Recruits and retains highly qualified staff and effectively addresses personnel issues and staff well-being in order to promote a healthy and productive work environment.
  • Provides timely, fair and unbiased feedback to staff regarding performance which includes conducting performance reviews and implementing corrective action.
  • Participates in offerings to keep appraised of trends and developments within the emergency mental health and medical social work field, and updates policies and operations as indicated.
  • Oversees programming, staff scheduling and internal audits to ensure care is compliant with clinical expectations and reimbursement requirements.
  • Ensures availability of all necessary materials and supplies needed for patient care in identified areas.

Administrative-Departmental Leadership

  • Integrates and applies core values and strategic essentials as a means to guide and make decisions to achieve short- and long-term organizational objectives.
  • Participates in BHS leadership meetings, BHS product line meetings, MHER Quality Improvement meetings, and strategic planning for the department to achieve desirable outcomes, meeting quality metrics and integrating care for patients throughout the continuum of services.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Emergency Department physician group to coordinate care, establish and improve process and gain consensus for best practices for medical clearance and coordination between behavioral health staff and physicians.
  • Coordinates with BHS psychiatrists, BHS leadership team, ED leadership team and other hospital leaders to address complex patient behavior and difficulties with patient placements.
  • Maintain awareness of and relationships with community organizations and partners to facilitate prompt quality care in the community.

Resource Utilization

  • Collaborates with the Department Director in the preparation and implementation of the budget, including monitoring productivity, variances, and identifying and implementing cost improvement measures.
  • Collaborates with billing leadership, IS and the reimbursement team to ensure that maximum revenues are realized.
  • Ensures clinicians are credentialed and enrolled by the various insurance companies in coordination with the credentialing specialist.
  • Achieves and maintains a high level of expertise related to the EMR and serves as a resource for EMR changes and improvements.
  • Coordinates with UR team to ensure that necessary insurance authorization training and resources are in place to assist in obtaining necessary authorization for inpatient care.
