POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Gambling Disorder Prevention Program Coordinator, the Behavioral Health Prevention Specialist (BHP) provides prevention, education, screening, brief intervention, and referral services related to gambling disorder and substance use throughout the community. The BHP works collaboratively with schools, community organizations, healthcare providers, and other behavioral health programs to increase awareness of substance use and gambling disorders and promote early identification and intervention.

 

This position delivers community presentations, implements school-based prevention curriculum, conducts evidence-based gambling disorder screenings, provides brief intervention utilizing motivational interviewing techniques, and facilitates warm referrals to treatment and recovery supports. Approximately fifty percent of this position supports Gambling Disorder Prevention Services, with the remaining fifty percent supporting Trinity Services' substance use recovery and prevention initiatives.

 

Location: Joliet, IL (Travel throughout Will, Grundy, Kendall, DuPage, and South Suburban Cook Counties)

Shift: Primarily Monday-Friday; occasional evenings and weekends for community outreach and events

Salary: $52,500

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Conduct community education presentations regarding gambling disorder prevention.
  • Deliver IDHS-approved gambling prevention curriculum in schools.
  •  Conduct evidence-based gambling disorder screenings.
  • Provide brief intervention and motivational interviewing.
  • Make warm referrals to treatment and recovery supports.
  • Participate in community outreach events and prevention campaigns.
  • Develop relationships with schools, colleges, healthcare providers, casinos, and community organizations.
  • Coordinate outreach during Problem Gambling Awareness Month and Gift Responsibly campaigns.
  • Assist with development of culturally appropriate prevention materials.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and required reports.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to gambling disorder prevention.
  • Support other addiction prevention initiatives as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift up to 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted.
  • Push and pull up to 75 pounds; push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds.
  • Perform physical movements including squatting, stooping, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Stand, sit, or remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive hand and finger movements for computer and phone use.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Public Health, or related field (CADC or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience providing behavioral health, prevention, or community education services.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing preferred.
  • Completion of IDHS 30-hour Gambling Disorder Training within required timeframe.
  • Problem and Compulsive Gambling Counselor (PCGC) or International Certified Gambling Counselor (ICGC) certification preferred but not required.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License and reliable transportation.
