Assistant Patient Care Manager

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as an Assistant Patient Care Manager in CCD6 Pre-Op/PACU at our Hyde Park campus. This is a full-time, onsite position.

The Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM) supports the Patient Care Manager (PCM) in overseeing daily operations, patient flow, staff support, and the delivery of safe, patient-centered care. The APCM leads assigned shift activities, supports quality and regulatory readiness, and assumes responsibility for the unit in the PCM’s absence.

Essential Job Functions

• Coordinate patient flow and support safe, efficient care in the preoperative and recovery areas.
• Lead staff huddles and complete daily or shift-specific quality audits.
• Round with staff, patients, and families to identify and address concerns.
• Support staff orientation, coaching, competency development, and performance conversations.
• Participate in interviewing and selecting staff.
• Monitor staffing, productivity, supplies, and resource use in collaboration with the PCM.
• Promote patient safety, workplace safety, and regulatory readiness.
• Review and report safety events and participate in quality-improvement activities.
• Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia, procedural teams, and other departments to support patient care and timely transitions.
• Support shared governance and a respectful, collaborative work environment.
• Carry out other responsibilities assigned by the PCM or senior leadership.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher.
• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• At least two years of ICU nursing experience.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Obtain PALS certification within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Surgical ICU experience.
• Master’s degree.
• Preoperative or PACU nursing experience.
• Charge nurse or other demonstrated clinical leadership experience.
• Experience in an academic medical center or unionized environment.
• Relevant specialty certification.

Position Details

Job Type/FTE: Full Time, 1.0 FTE
Schedule: Five days per week; 1:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
Weekend Requirement: Weekend on-call coverage

Salary Range: $118,500–$138,300 annually

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
