Job Overview


The Assistant Director of Residential Education provides comprehensive oversight of a residential area of approximately 2,00 students, which include the direct supervision to masters-level, full-time Community Directors and indirect supervision to the Resident Assistants. The Assistant Director, in partnership with their staff, oversees the educational and community development efforts of their assigned residential area while providing leadership by setting goals and partnering with staff and community stakeholders to promote student formation and advance the mission of Residential Living. The Assistant Director for supports the Safety Net functions of Residential Education and encourages community ownership by administering the Code of Student Conduct. The Assistant Director addresses student, parent/ family, and student support concerns through proactive problem solving. Moreover, the Assistant Director will lead Residential Education-wide initiatives and committees most notably Student Staff Selection. These positions are required to live-on.
 

Work Interactions


This position is part of a large, complex department with 103 Resident Assistants, 11 Community Directors, 3 Assistant Directors, 2 Associate Directors, and 1 Director serving over 5,400 students. Each Assistant Director oversees a critical area: Student Staff Selection, Student Staff Training, and Living and Learning Communities.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A completed Master's Degree is required, preferably in the area of Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or Social Work

  • 3-5 years of previous full-time professional experience in the field of Residential Living

  • Thorough understanding of and commitment to the work of Residential Living as well as the education and character development of college students

  • Demonstrated experience in the areas of leadership, supervision, professional development, administrative skills, social justice & inclusion, community development, educational engagement and emergency response

  • Ability to manage stress, conflict and frustration constructively; demonstrate a positive attitude

  • Identify, define and apply creative and original approaches to resolve issues and use sound judgment based on training and departmental policies and protocol

  • Awareness and understanding of the Jesuit values and the ability to conceptualize them in the application of this role

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
