SUMMARY: The Assistant Director provides general oversite and management to the domestic violence shelter, including supervising all shelter staff. The Assistant Director also aids in representing the shelter in the community, helps with grants and fundraising.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages all property aspects of the shelter; works with the Director to ensure the physical facility is maintained and meets safety standards; creates and maintains a welcoming atmosphere of support and assistance for all clients, shelter residents and staff.
• Coordinates programs to empower residents to transition to independence, such as nutrition, budgeting, parenting, and exercise programs.
• Acts as a liaison between Safer Futures and other social service providers and community partners.
• Recruits, trains, develops and supervises shelter staff and shelter field placement students; maintains schedule of shelter staff, interns, community service workers, volunteers and Jobs & Family Services work participants to ensure adequate shift coverage.
• Oversees all case files on shelter residents to ensure accuracy, confidentiality and security; addresses any administrative issues with staff that relate to case file and records maintenance.
• Monitors shelter program goals, objectives and standards to ensure they are being met and that optimal services are being offered to victims. Assists with grant preparation and submission.
• Assists with marketing and fundraising.
• Reports critical problems to the Director in a timely manner.
• Provides crisis intervention, information and referrals to crisis calls as needed.
• Attends staff meetings, in-service trainings and related professional trainings.
• Coordinates accurate and timely completion and submission of required reports.
• Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two years of supervisory experience required.
• Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence.
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and positions.
• Ability to work in a stressful/crisis-oriented environment; crisis intervention skills required.
• Possess excellent computer and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
• Ability to articulate the program philosophy of Someplace Safe. Completes all of the above in a manner consistent with the program philosophy of Someplace Safe.
• Flexibility and compassion in working with families in crisis. Knowledge of the trauma informed care approach is essential.
• Ability to hear and talk on the phone and/or face to face interaction required. Must be able to climb stairs, bend, and stretch above shoulder level. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
• Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling and/or a minimum of two years of experience working with domestic violence victims in a shelter environment; certified in CPR and First Aid.
• Unrestricted State of Ohio driver’s license.

This position requires compliance with AFS’ written standards, including its Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.
Failure to comply with AFS’ Written Standards, which may include the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements or AFS’ Written Standards or, for managers and supervisors, fails to detect non-compliant conduct where reasonable efforts would have resulted in detection, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination, in accordance with AFS’ Compliance Program Policy and Procedure: Addressing Instances of Non-Compliance through Appropriate Disciplinary Actions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). The employee will occasionally be working near moving mechanical parts, be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and exposed to a risk of electrical shock while running the copier, printer, other standard equipment and answering the telephone. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate. Stress level can be high at times.
